In 2022, Geetanjali Shree became the first Hindi author to win the prestigious International Booker Prize for the English translation of her novel "Tomb of Sand." The novel revolves around an eighty-year-old middle-class woman who falls into depression after the death of her husband but regains the courage to face life. Together with her daughter, she crosses the border between India and Pakistan in search of her first husband and connections to her earlier life before the partition in 1947. The novel explores issues of female identity in a patriarchal society as well as the impact of borders and boundaries on multiple levels.
